We are working on another Silent Auction… coming Feb. 2016!
The Brandeis Parents for Cadets organization is soliciting donations from the PfC membership to support this year’s silent auction. We’ve already partnered with many local businesses, restaurants, sports teams, and attractions, but would like to offer parents the opportunity to donate items as well! Do you have a small business, hobby, or creative talent you’d like to promote? Perhaps a re-gift from the holiday season someone else may find more useful? This is an excellent platform to put yourself out there and support the cadets.
All proceeds generated from this silent auction will go directly toward the corps and cadets to help them achieve their goals, including scholarships! Every contribution made will be tax exempt, will be acknowledged in the silent auction, and an appropriate receipt provided by our organization, which is a non-profit 501 (c) (3) organization. If you would like to donate or have any questions, please contact Shaad Gilson at sagilso@gmail.com. All donations must be received by January 30th. Thank you for your time and consideration!

The mission at Brandeis High School Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFJROTC) is to “develop citizens of character dedicated to serving their nation and community.” The AFJROTC program is a great pathway for those students who wish to go to college and/or continue to pursue a career in the U.S. military either through enlisting or through ROTC scholarships and service academies. This is an organization dedicated to instilling patriotism, service to others, character education, personal courage, and success in both the classroom and athletic field. Our unit is made up of over 150 cadets from the northwest San Antonio area ranging from 14 to 18 years old.
This past year the cadets were able to participate in many activities including the Athletic, Armed/Unarmed Drill, and Model Rocketry teams making local, regional and national championship competitions. The Color Guard also participated in numerous performances during the school year. The cadets also participated in educational field trips throughout the year, making visits to Randolph AFB and Lackland AFB, to observe day-to-day operations and military life, and Fort Sam Houston to participate in Wreaths Across America. These trips are designed to reinforce what’s learned in the classroom.
Contrary to popular belief, Junior ROTC units at the high school level receive minimal financial support from the military and must depend on donations in order to offer cadets these opportunities in drill, athletic events, and orientation trips to military facilities. Our drill teams are nationally recognized, with Blue Aces and Nighthawks winning National Champions runner-up at this year’s Air Force National Championship at Macon, Georgia, and the All Services National Drill Competition held in Daytona Beach, FL. These young girls and boys practice in excess of 18 hours per week throughout the year to compete in these events. In addition, they pay over $1,000 each and give up their spring break to compete.
Parents for Cadets supports the Brandeis AFJROTC mission of “developing citizens of character dedicated to serving their nation and community.” We are a non-profit organization, in existence for the exclusive support of Brandeis High School AFJROTC and its cadets. Our sole means of support is through fundraising and donations. The organizational goal of our fundraising is to provide scholarships and monetary support to help the corps achieve its goals. With all that there is to offer here at Brandeis AFJROTC, we just can’t do it alone.
It takes over $20,000 a year to effectively run the unit and compete at state and national levels. The Air Force provides the cadets with uniforms, but the cadets must pay on their own for competitions, athletic clothing, lodging, transportation, and food for travel. Historically, we’ve performed various fundraisers each year but invariably run short of time and money goals. Parents for Cadets works hard during the season and off-season to raise money to help offset the costs incurred by the cadets throughout the year. We’d like to thank you for participating in this year’s silent auction to support these talented kids.
